In a rather silly oversight by GameStop, the upcoming video game SpongeBob HeroPants for PlayStation Vita has been listed as a Mature rated title on the retailer’s website. Evidently GameStop seems to think that the undersea sponge is appropriate for the R-rated, 17 and older crowd only. That or someone hit the wrong button. Probably the latter.
Obviously the game is not for mature audiences as it’s based off of the popular children’s television show SpongeBob SquarePants on Nickelodeon. In fact, the official ESRB rating, according to the box art, is “E for Everyone”. The other versions of the game for Xbox 360 and Nintendo 3DS are listed correctly on GameStop as E for Everyone.
One hopes but must wonder if they’ll change this before a prompt asking a customer for ID is made in their systems at release. It would be humorous if they don’t, I think.
SpongeBob HeroPants releases for Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, and PlayStation Vita (PS TV compatible) on February 3, 2015.
