PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro Officially Revealed, Dated, and Priced

The PlayStation Meeting gamers around the world were waiting for took place this afternoon in New York where Sony outlined the hardware to lead the brand into the future. After its initial launch three years ago, the PS4 is finally getting two upgrades this year – a slim model and a Pro model.

First up, PlayStation boss Andrew House went right into the official reveal of the PS4 Slim, which is set to hit North American, Japan, and European shelves starting on September 15th, 2016. The model, known as CUH-2000 series will initially have a 500GB HDD with a MSRP of 29,980 yen, $299 USD, €299 and £259.

The system has been redesigned to reduce its volume by more than 30% and reducing its weight by 25% and 16% compared to the first (CUH-1000 series) and current (CUH-1200 series) models respectively. In addition the PS4 slim is supposed to be more energy-efficient, as the power consumption has been cut by more than 34% and 28% compared to the very first and current models.

The PS4 slim will be the main PS4 hardware from here out, replacing the current models that we have been familiar with since launch. If you’re deciding between a PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro, keep in mind that all PS4 systems past, present, and future will support HDR (High Dynamic Range) imaging technology with an upcoming firmware update.
