Technavio, a market research group gave its global gaming market report expecting the video games industry to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.42% during the period 2016-2020. An excerpt from the report preview reads:

The report covers the present scenario and the growth prospects of the global gaming market for 2016-2020. To calculate the market size, the report considers the revenue generated from consumers spending on playing games.

Technavio’s report, Global Gaming Market 2016-2020, has been prepared based on an in-depth market analysis with inputs from industry experts. The report covers the market landscape and its growth prospects over the coming years. The report also includes a discussion of the key vendors operating in this market.

The research group listed a number of key companies that would contribute to this growth including Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Microsoft Studios, Sony, and Tencent. Surprising to some is that the household video gaming name, Nintendo, was not to be seen in that “Key” list.

However, Nintendo wasn’t cast off completely. The Japanese gaming company was listed along with other “prominent vendors” such as SEGA, Namco Bandai, Konami, Take-Two Interactive, Square Enix, and Telltale Games.

It’s no secret that Nintendo’s home console the Wii U has had its struggles but the company is doing well in various other areas and will be revealing their new system, the NX, within the next year.
